As the world marks International Environmental Day, the International Breweries Limited, Ori Ile-Imo, near Siun, celebrated the day by carrying out environmental sanitation exercises in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Commemorating World Environmental Day, WED, with pomp and ceremony at Gateway State, was meant to be a surprise package to the Ake Palace, and indeed, it was to celebrate Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Paramount Ruler of Egbaland
The Members of the Management and Staff of the company cleaned up some landmark areas of the Abeokuta.
The presence of employees of International Breweries Plc, Monday, June 6, at the Ake Palace in commemoration of the World Environment Day, was indeed a welcome development.
Areas where the sanitation exercise took place included, Ibara Business District of the State Capital, Lalubu and Panseke.
The Surprise Sanitation exercise also took International Breweries convoy to June12 Cultural Center and MKO Abiola Stadium, all in ABEO. Abeokuta.
Other Epic Sites Surprise Exercise cleaning up by the environmental sanitation of the Bottling Company, were the Olumo Rock Tourist Centre.
At the Ake Palace, areas of the Palace Chapel, the first and second Palaces and the Ake Fore Grounds were all cleaned up.
In an interview with Newsflagship Correspondent, the Environmental and Safety Manager, International Breweries, Mr Oluyomi Adodo, disclosed that, environmental sanitation should be a regular duty for all commuters of various community.
Mr Adodo noted that, this year’s World Environmental Day, which is usually celebrated every 5th of June, had a theme ‘One World,’ which comprised Water, Carbon and Recycling.
He added that, people needed to maintain an hygienic environment, whereby, it would preserve it for future generation.
The Environmental Manager also advised everyone to discard their wastes in an appropriate place, noting that, on many occasions, he had seen people dumping refuses in drainages, river, especially during the rainfall.
Speaking on their visit to the Olumo, Ake Palace and other Landmark places, he said that, the campaign was to give awareness and to sensitise the public on how various environments should be maintained hygienically with regular cleaning
Mr Adodo added that, the International Breweries had also put plans in place to ensure, all wastes gathered were being segregated and those that were recyclable would be taken to Plant for recycling, to manufacture plastics and other usable materials
He therefore urged the general public to always dispose their wastes in proper places, so as to curb flooding and erosion, hence, by doing that, it would lead to healthy and serene environments.
Also speaking, Mrs Adekemi Popoola, Environment and Safety Controller, International Breweries PLC, reiterated that, a lot of environmental pollution were happening in almost all parts of the country and as an Organization, International Breweries had found it as part of their contributions to issue their quota in helping to creating a future with more cheers by ensuring that, wastes were properly recycled
Mrs Popoola further stated that, when plastics and wastes were properly recycled, it was a way of reducing waste to the landfill and way of reducing incineration and also an avenue to create job opportunities.
She added that, cleaning the environment was part of their commitment, noting that, they had a vision called “2025 vision” on circular packaging, percentage recycling and so on.
She advised the all commuters to always get their wastes properly segregated and those that, could be decomposed should go through decomposing process.
