The new Wakeel Muslimeen of Yoruba, Delta and Edo States, Sheikh Iskeel Awwal, has been told that his new post should not be regarded as another big title.
Rather, Sheikh Iskeel Awwal should regard the honour as a specific call to greater assignment in the propagation of Islam, peace among all faiths, and the generality of the people.
The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, made the remarks while presenting the Staff of Office to the new Wakeel Musilimeen of Yoruba, Delta and Edo States today in Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun thanked the League of Imams and Alfas of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta States for the honour done to Ogun State alongside Sheikh Iskeel Awwal, by the Turbaning Awwal (sugar) as the Wakeelul Muslimeen of Yorubaland.
The Executive Governor of Ogun State also urged all Muslims to live peacefully with people of other religions as this is a commandment of the Prophet Mohammed
The Governor noted that Ogun State had the reputation of producing best leaders of various fields of human endeavours including religion, education and other faculties which were exampled as the first Church, Bible, and others in Nigeria
He expressed joy that all Muslim leaders in Yorubaland, Delta and Edo were all united in the choice of Sheikh Iskeel Awwal
In his remarks, the former Nigerian President, Chief Aremu Olusegun Obasanjo congratulated the Wakeel while presenting his certificate to him.
Chief Obasanjo also prayed that his tenure would bring good tidings to all Nigerians.
Many dignitaries from all over the Country especially Muslim Cleric, members of league of Imams and alfas of Yorubaland; Edo and Delta State, and government officials including the Secretary to the State Governor, Mr Tokunbo Talabi attended the turbaning of the new Wakeel Muslimeen. The Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo was ably represented by Aare Baaroyin, Chief Lai Labode.
