“Your Integrity As A Veteran Journalist Is Proverbial” Alake Tells The Ekefa Olubadan

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo has described Chief Lekan Alabi as a versatile and veteran journalist, whose integrity had enabled him to serve many Governors.

Oba Adedotun Gbadebo made the remarks during the official presentation of the Biography of Chief Lekan at the Ake Palace on Monday, 28th of June, 2021.

The Egba Paramount Monarch noted that Chief Lekan Alabi’s assiduity, excellent public relations, respect for elders and Tradition and Culture is worthy of emulation.

Oba Gbadebo also congratulated Chief Alabi as he had moved up in the long line of the Olubadan Stool, as the Ekefa and prayed that he would live long to get to the apex throne.

The Egba Apex Monarch launched Chief Lekan Alabi’s Biography by buying 20 copies for distribution to some Universities libraries in Egbaland.

Speaking on relationships between Egba and Ibadan, the Alake stated that there was no difference between Egbas and Ibadan people, adding that he attended Ibadan Grammar School after which he studied at University of Ibadan.

Alake noted that many townships in Ibadan were replicated in Egbaland here.
These included Ago Ibadan, Ojoo, Idol, Owe(Awe), and many others.

He further prayed that the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, would live long.

Speaking earlier, Chief Lekan Alabi appreciated the Alake for always welcoming all with love and support.

Chief Alabi also said that there is a strong mutual love between the Alake and the Olubadan.

He further disclosed that he would never disrespect the traditional institution and that was why he decided to formally present his biography to the Alake.

He added that the presentation should have been done since last year but due to the Covid19 pandemic and the EndSars protest, it had to be postponed.

The Biography was written by Prof Odiesse Nwodisse, former head of Political Science, University of Ibadan

In an interview with Newsflagship, Chief Lekan Alabi, the Eekefa of Olubadan said the book was launched on October, 27, 2020 which was the day he became a Septuagenarian.

He also said that the title of the book, “Oloye Lekan Alabi: An Unbelievable Life,” proves that he was destined for greatness and everyone must get a copy to find out about the unbelievability of his life.

“I am a man of humility, respect, strict compliance with protocol, law and order.” He said.

He added that he di not condone indiscipline, and that genuine attempts must be made in anything one does.

“Just don’t wish things to happen, you must plan, have a program of action, and actualise it.”

“Today, Nigeria is far behind the standards set by our fathers, mothers, our seniors, with due respect my piers, because it has failed to actualise them.”

“Everyone hides under religion whereas religion should reflect in your actions, speech, and character. It is a thing of the heart, not what we have today where everyone wants to prove to the other person that he or she is a good Christian or Muslim.”

“I wish we would change from religiousity to Godliness and make plans and follow up with concrete and strategic actions.”

Speaking on the Alake’s remarks about his biography, the Ekefa Olubadan thanked Oba Gbadebo for his sincere remarks about him.

“I had know Alake since when he was in the army because I served four Governors of old Oyo State, one civilian, Chief Bola Ige of blessed memory, and 3 military Governors, Rt Major Gen. Oladayo Popoola, Rt Brigade Gen. Adetunji Olunrin, and late Brigade Gen. Sasaeniyan Oresanya.”

“When he was in Dodan Barracks, the first headquarters, I interacted as Press Secretary to his colleagues and as he said, one has always been very careful, respectful, dedicated, and patriotic.

Present at the occasion was Olu Tafin Elect, Moruf Adebayo, Chief Layi Labode, Aare Baaroyin Egba, Chief (Mrs) Modupe Labode, Seriki Iyaloja Egba, and Princess Bisi Gbadebo.
