YOUTH CORPS MEMBERS TO START LEARNING SKILLS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The new Ogun State Coordinator the National Youth Service Corps, Dr (Mrs) Belinda Ameze Faniyi says Youth Corpers are to start acquiring entrepreneurial skills during their service year.

These skills would include tailoring, hair making, shoe and bag making, automobile repair, and so on.

Dr (Mrs) Belinda Faniyi, disclosed this in Ake during a courtesy visit to the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

The new NYSC Coordinator explained further that the Directorate decided to add value to the life after service of the corps members by making them more creative, self employed and self sufficient and be employers of labour, instead of looking for jobs after NYSC Service.

Dr Faniyi, who was a Youth Corper here in Abeokuta some years ago herslf, commended Alake for always being there for the best host for Corpers since the Monarch assumed office more than a decade ago.

She disclosed that she could have come to pay traditional home to the Alake, but for the Orientation of Corpers that fell a day to her resumption in March this year.

In His Majesty’s response, the Alake commended  Military under General Yakubu Gowon, for starting the Scheme which he described as a National Bridge Building mechanism for sustainable Nigerian cohesion and unity.

Alake noted that the new Coordinator was one of the best exemplary results of the Scheme because, having come from Benin, Edo State and marrying to an Ekitiman from Yorubaland.

Oba Gbadebo also disclosed that there had been cooperation between Egba and Benin Kingdoms as the two had been exchanging diplomatic activities.

Alake promised to attend the Orientation and promised to sustain his gift of two cows to celebrate Christmas.

He prayed that she would leave Egbaland in higher rank.

The new NYSC Coordinator was accompanied by some Senior Management Staff.

They included the Assistant Director Deployment and Relocation Branch, Mrs Rhekia Mautin; Assistant Director Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Reverend (Dr.) Samson Oluwole; Assistant Director a Human Resource Management Branch, Mrs Helen Folusho; and Chief Executive Officers, Mr. Saheed and Mrs. Dorcas Anyanokhabo.

Some Egba Obas and High Chiefs in attendance were the Olu of Ayetoro Budo, Oba Adeniyi Adewunmi, Olu Oke-Odo Ilupeju, Oba Muftau Akindele; The Olu of Ido, the Ogboye, High Chief S.O. Akinremi; the Baagbimo, Chief Akanni Akinwale; and  the Aare Baaroyin, Chief Layi Labode.
